There’s no such thing as too many Girl Scout cookies! Well, apparently not. The Girl Scouts have an unusual problem this year, as they still have about 15 million boxes of unsold cookies.
Coronavirus is the main reason why the cookies were not sold. As the pandemic continued into the spring selling season, many troops decided to cancel their traditional cookie booths for safety reasons.
This may not seem like a big deal, but Girl Scout cookies are the biggest fundraiser for the organization. The funding helps pay for programming, travel, camps, and other activities.
Girl Scouts usually sell around $800 million worth of cookies each year. This year, over 15 million boxes were left over, and unsold. The Bakers who make the cookies say they are working with the Girl Scout to donate the cookies to food banks, and the military.
