Photo by David McNew/Getty ImagesHave you ever heard of a "ZenBooth"? Amazon is adding them to their warehouses. They are Amazon's latest move is to help warehouse employees de-stress. The Amazon ZenBooth is a tiny kiosk where employees can shut themselves off from the outside and conduct "mindfulness practices". The practices are guided by the company's 'AmaZen' program. The company says the ZenBooth was invented by one of its employees and can help workers "recharge the internal battery". But many of the company's critics aren't impressed, with one tweeting "a Porta-Potty would be more useful".
The tiny booth has a place to sit as well as plants, pamphlets, a fan, and a computer that can play employee-selected videos
I have to agree this is a little odd. There are a lot of things I would rather do on a break than stand in a box. Perhaps this money could have been spent on nice break rooms? Or providing massages to employees to help them destress? Or perhaps making the environment not quite as stressful. Something tells me these won't catch on at other employers. Workers have survived their entire careers without needing a port-a-potty-sized box to "get away" in.
Would you use a ZenBooth at work?
