A new Amazon Studios-funded study from USC Annenberg takes a look at the 100 top-grossing films from the years 2007-2019. Out of the 1,300 movies, two-thirds of the API characters were based on stereotypes, one-third of API leads were played by Dwayne Johnson.
Over all, men far outnumbered women among speaking and named API characters. Just six of the leads were women – meanwhile, there were 336 unique white male leads in the 13-year span.
