OAKLAND, CA - FEBRUARY 06: A worker with the Oakland Department of Public Works street cleaning team dumps trash into a pickup truck February 6, 2006 in Oakland, California. The Oakland city council committee is expected to vote on a measure Tuesday that would impose fees on all restaurants and stores that serve takeout food or beverages to combat a growing and costly problem of litter throughout the city. Oakland would be the first city in the nation to force fast food outlets and convenience stores to help finance the clean up litter. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

We may have spent more time than ever at home in the last year and half, but that apparently didn’t stop people from littering.

NC Dept. of Transportation crews just released some pretty shocking numbers; so far this year, 6.3 million pounds of litter has been picked up from roadsides in the state.

NCDOT says that those numbers put us on track to surpass the 2019 record of 10.5 litter collected.

Littering seems like such an obvious this to not do, but clearly many people are still throwing their trash on the ground. We need to protect the Earth, and throwing your litter on the ground seems like the most blatant way to show how little you care.

Please remember to secure your trash, and properly dispose of it so we can keep out local roads, and the Earth clean!

You can actually report littering if you see it at NCDOT’s Swat-A-Litterbug app.

Another way to help is through NCDOT’s Adopt A Highway program that allows businesses, organizations, and individuals to sponsor litter removal along roadsides.

Lets do our part and keep out planet clean this year, Charlotte!
