The weather is going to be absolutely beautiful this weekend in the Queen City, and I know we are all wanting to get outside and enjoy the nice weather before the heat gets unbearable in those Carolina Summer months.

Not to mention, the outdoor mask mandate in North Carolina is lifted this Friday, so many people will be excited about that too.

If you’re looking to get out this weekend, here’s a list of some evets happening around the Queen City.

 

FRIDAY

 

VTGCLT Chroma Pop-Up 

  • Camp North End at 1701 North Graham St.
  • Shop a curated collection of vintage and handmade clothing and accessories in Camp North End’s latest pop-up shop called Chroma.

Morelia Gourmet Paletas Grand Opening

  • Paletas Morelia is opening in South End and they’re giving away free popsicles to the first 1,000 guests.

Jazz at Victoria Yards

  • 408 North Tryon St.
  • To cap off Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day, all are welcome for a live, outdoor performance featuring some of the best artists in the Charlotte region.

Spring Flavors with Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen 

  • 4001-C Yancey Rd. Ste #100
  • Parents can bring their children/teens for a collaborative cooking class taught by Chef Gloria. On the menu for the evening is skillet spatchcock chicken with honey mustard glaze (GF), spring vegetable succotash (GF), and for dessert, a sweet biscuit strawberry shortcake.

Wander with Wine

  • Join Petit Philippe at Wing Haven for an exclusive evening of special wine while strolling through the gardens to kick off the 27th annual Gardeners’ Garden Tour. Price includes one ticket to Wing Haven’s 27th Annual Gardeners’ Garden Tour.

SATURDAY

Uptown Farmers’ Market

  • 300 S Davidson St.
  • Stop by the Uptown Farmers’ Market to pick out fresh produce, meats, cheese, and baked goods. There will be over 40 local farms and artisan vendors, and live music. Covid-19 safety protocols such as mask-wearing and social distancing will be in place.

Homemade Spanish Tapas

  • Online with SkillPop
  • Join Chef Rosana for a class dedicated to the art of preparing Spanish tapas. You’ll learn how to make Croquetas de Jamon (ham croquettes), Pan con Tomate (tomato bread), and Patatas Bravas (spicy aioli potatoes).

Free Will Craft + Vine Golf Contest

  • Put your golf skills to the test at Free Will self-pour bar and lounge where every Saturday they’ll host golf competitions on their HDgolf Simulator.

Breathe + Bubbly: A Pop-Up Yoga Event 

  • 2215 Thrift Road, Suite B
  • Summit Seltzer is once again teaming up with Dancing Lotus Yoga to offer a 45-minute outdoor yoga class, plus post-workout seltzers and snacks. There will also be “experience stations” featuring various local vendors with items to try. Bring a mat.

Pet Pop Up

  • Pamper your pet with fun goodies from local vendors like dog treats and leashes.

MAKRS Society Market 

  • Lenny Boy Brewing Co. at 3000 S Tryon St.
  • Shop from 20 talented local artists and makers on the first Saturday of the month while you sip on a beer or kombucha from Lenny Boy.

QC Derby Day 

  • Pinhouse
  • Dress in your derby best for derby day at Pinhouse. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed. Festivities begin at 2pm and the race is scheduled for 6:50pm.
  • 2-7pm.

Kentucky Derby Day

  • The Ballantyne’s Gallery Bar
  • It’s race day and Gallery Bar has a fun line-up of pre-race festivities and specials including their famous Ballantyne Private Selection Woodford Reserve Mint Juleps and their annual Churchill Couture Contest. Pull out your fascinators and seersucker suits and dress to impress for prizes.

Grand Bohemian Charlotte’s Jockeys & Juleps

  • Tickets include a complementary Julep and commemorative cup, access to a Woodford Bourbon tasting, Chef selected Hors D’oeuvres and door prizes (including prizes for best hat and bowtie).

Cinco De Mayo Celebration

  • Get an early start to celebrating Cinco de Mayo and head to Camp North End for a fun evening of festivities. There will be live music, food and drinks.

SUNDAY

Counterculture Club Outdoor Yoga Series 

  • Camp North End
  • Join Counterculture Club Yoga in the Boileryard at Camp North End for a rejuvenating yoga flow, fit for all levels.
  • 10am.

Music in the Gardens 

  • 400 Hermitage Road
  • The Duke Mansion hosts The Bechtler Ensemble in the gardens to play string quartet arrangements of The Beatles and ancient Chinese folk tunes. Bring your own chair. Glasses of wine and cocktails will be available for purchase.
  • 4-5pm.
  • $35 per person.

ALL WEEKEND

River Jam at The Whitewater Center 

  • 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy.
  • Enjoy live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday now through September at a one-of-a-kind outdoor venue in the middle of the world’s largest man-made whitewater river. Genres include roots rock, Americana, bluegrass, folk, and funk.
  • 7pm.

Good Times Pop-Up Art Gallery 

  • 820 Hamilton St.
  • “Good Times” is an immersive art exhibit that features works from artists in the Charlotte community.
  • April 30 – May 3, various time slots.

Strawberry Picking

  • Carrigan Farms at 1145 Oakridge Farm Hwy.
  • Strawberry picking returns to Carrigan Farms. There will also be freshly picked asparagus and a seasonal food truck at the farm.
