CHICAGO, IL - MAY 27: Crime scene tape is stretched around the front of a home where a man was shot on May 28, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago police have added more than 1,000 officers to the streets over the Memorial Day weekend, hoping to put a dent in crime, during what is typically one of the more violent weekends of the year. In 2016, 6 people were killed and another 65 were wounded by gun violence over the Memorial Day weekend. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

Raleigh Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the following case to contact the department at (919) 834-4357 or visit raleighcrimestoppers.org.

What started as a welfare check on a 20-year-old woman turned into a homicide investigation this past Sunday night.

Christina Maria Matos turned 20 last Friday and her family started getting concerned after not hearing from her the entire weekend. Matos was a student at Wake Technical Community College living in a Signature 1505 apartment with two roommates. Her father called police when he couldn’t get in touch with her, and when officers arrived at her apartment they found her deceased.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide, but they have not released any additional information regarding the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
