Cheerwine made life a little sweeter for some shoppers at a Charlotte supermarket. Nearly three dozen customers at a Food Lion were surprised to find out their groceries were paid for by the North Carolina-based soft drink company.

A team from Cheerwine told about 35 shoppers that they “owed zero dollars on their grocery bills” as part of a promotion for a new product, Cheerwine Zero Sugar. Those folks also went home with a free two-liter bottle of the new soda and a bag of Cheerwine goodies.

Other customers at the Food Lion were treated to smaller moments of “cheer” as the soda company gave out samples of Cheerwine Zero Sugar and gift cards, too.
