House Democrats are pushing the IRS to extend the tax-filing season.
A letter to the IRS says the April 15th deadline for filing taxes is unrealistic as the U.S. is still in an unprecedented period of national crisis. Dems are asking for an extension of the deadline to July 15th, as the IRS did last year.
In addition to handling annual tax returns, the IRS is also involved in distributing the latest stimulus checks. Many departments are focusing solely on that rather than typical tax duties.
