A high school basketball player in Michigan is being recognized for a quiet act of kindness he did last week for a player on the opposing team. At a game last week, Wakefield-Marenisco Cardinals varsity forward Matt Montie noticed a player on the Dollar Blue Bay Bolts team was playing in shoes that aren’t meant for basketball.

Knowing the importance of proper high-top footwear, after the game, the teen gave the other player his own shoes, a pair of LeBron James Nikes. “I just remember being young and not being able to afford nicer shoes for basketball and I know how bad it sucked,” Montie says. “Basketball shoes are a necessity. I’ve rolled a lot of ankles not wearing the right shoes for the right things.”

His coach, Terry Fetters, says he’s not surprised by Monte’s move, but he is proud of him, calling him “a good young man.” Montie says it feels good to help someone out and he hopes the other player likes the shoes.
