SYDNEY, NSW – JUNE 07: A pregnant woman holds her stomach June 7, 2006 in Sydney, Australia. Australia is currently enjoying a baby boom, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics registering a 2.4% increase in births from 2004 to 2005, which represents the highest number of births since 1992. The Australian Federal Government has been encouraging people to have more babies, with financial incentives and the slogan by treasurer Peter Costello to “have one for mum, one for dad, and one for the country”. The Federal Government has identified falling fertility rates and the ageing population as long-term problems for Australia’s growth and prosperity. (Photo by Ian Waldie/Getty Images)

No matter how much planning and preparing you do before the birth of your baby, some things are out of your control, like when it’s actually going to happen. A couple in Connecticut experienced this when the wife went into labor during the middle of this week’s blizzard and they ended up delivering their own baby in the front seat of their car. Kaitlyn andDavid Vacchina were on their way to the hospital during a raging snowstorm Monday, but didn’t quite make it to the delivery room – or even inside the hospital building – in time.

And somehow, despite having no doctor, no epidural and no space, the couple managed to bring their baby girl into the world safe and sound. In fact, they’d gotten as far as the hospital parking lot, but baby Mollywasn’t waiting. Before doctors and nurses could get to the car....BINGO! By the time Dr. Theresa Adams got there, the newborn was on her mom’s belly covered in blankets.

The doctor says the baby girl was pink and breathing well and she cut the cord, then nurses got both mama and baby safely inside. Molly tipped the scales at eight-pounds, three-ounces and she’s doing well after her unconventional birth, as is mama Kaitlyn. With the major snowstorm on the way and his wife past her due date, David says he looked up “How to deliver a baby” beforehand, just in case, and it’s a good thing he did!
