The MRL Morning Show

Weekdays 6:00AM-9:00AM

If you’ve scrolled TikTok or Instagram in quarantine, you’ve probably seen more and more dreamy pics of folks gardening, donning gorgeous prairie dress, knitting and going on picnics. But that’s not just a case of the quarantine hobbyist, it’s a hot new trend called “cottagecore.”

Cottagecore is an aesthetic dedicated to romanticizing “uncomplicated” country living. Thinking growing vegetables, sipping tea, and foraging berries, all with a dreamy vibe a la “Alice In Wonderland.” Here are some gift ideas for your “cottagecore”-obsessed friend:

  • House plants. Giving someone a houseplant is like a way lower-pressure version of gifting them a new pet, and it’s perfect for nature lovers. Shop around and you can find some discounted “house plant bundles” to really get your cottagecore friend’s collection started. Throw in a watering can, and you’ll complete the set!
  • Hand trowel and garden fork set. Cottagecore is all about plants and florals, so what better gift than some gardening tools? Hop on Etsy and find a hand trowel and garden fork with a nice design, and your friend’s cottagecore gardening will be on point for the ‘gram.
  • Green ivy vine string lights. If you don’t want to gift actual plants, some artificial green icy vine string lights will do the trick. It’s a great and stylish way to light up a room, and great for the cottagecore ‘gram.
  • A baking set. It’s not just cottagecore, just about everyone has dabbled in baking this year. How can you go wrong with a baking set? Find one with a unique floral design to really please your cottagecore pal!
  • An infuser teapot. Brewing tea has never been easier – or more fun to watch. There are some chic-looking infuser teapots on the market, so your loved one can enjoy their favorite loose leaf varieties on the stove… and watch the whole process if you buy a glass one. Throw in some loose-leaf tea and you’ll make their holiday!
