Burger King is stepping up its Halloween game this year in Denmark and Sweden. If you happen to be in a Burger King in those two countries, don’t go into the bathroom.
If you say “canceled clown” three times in front of the mirror in certain Burger King bathrooms, the lights will dim and a vision of Ronald McDonald will appear. The scary stunt is part of their Halloween campaign made possible by new voice-recognition software. The software is trained to listen for the phrase “canceled clown.” If it hears it three times, it dims the lights, makes a noise, and plays visual effects on a screen behind the two-way “smart mirror.”
The campaign, which plays on the “Bloody Mary” urban legend, isn’t the first time Burger King has included their rival’s mascot in a marketing plan. Last month, Burger King Finland unveiled posters featuring Ronald McDonald and the Burger King kissing as part of Helsinki Pride.
