What time of day do you like to get your workout on? There’s some debate about whether it’s better to hit the gym in the morning or later in the day, but according to a recent study, the hour itself is less important than being consistent with your time. This research suggests the key to keeping the pounds off may be as simple as sticking to the same time of day for your workouts.

Researchers from Brown Alpert Medical School studied the exercise habits of 375 people who regularly work out and found some benefits to their habits. For one, folks who do their sweat sessions at the same time of day spend more time exercising each week than those who do it at random times. And nearly half (47.8%) of the fitness fans who work out at the same time of day are early morning exercisers.

In the end, study authors conclude that “exercising at the same time of day, regardless of whether it is during the morning, afternoon, or evening, may help with achieving higher levels” of physical activity. So choose whatever time works best for you and stick to working out then to get the best results.
