PIRU, CALIFORNIA – JULY 09: A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flies over Lake Piru, where actress Naya Rivera was reported missing Wednesday, on July 9, 2020 in Piru, California. Rivera, known for her role in “Glee,” was reported missing July 8 after her four-year-old son, Josey, was found alone in a boat rented by Rivera. When his son didn’t return home and wasn’t answering his phone, Tony Lethbridge knew something had to be wrong. Sam had gone to drop off a friend when he went missing in New South Wales, Australia, but his dad knew deep down inside that he hadn’t run away. So instead of waiting for authorities to locate Sam, Tony used his last $800 to hire a helicopter to look for him.

Sam had been missing for 29 hours by this point and his dad’s instincts told him something must be wrong. And that intuition proved to be right, Sam’s wrecked car was found in a ditch off the highway, with him still alive, but pinned inside.

He was soon rescued and an ambulance got him to the hospital. Sam has a long road to recovery, but he might not have survived if not for his dad trusting his gut and doing everything in his power to find him.
