Simon Cowell, the former American Idol and current America's Got Talent judge was hopsitalized yesterday after a bicycling accident in Malibu, California, according to People.

"Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening," a rep for Cowell said, per People.  "Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family. He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He's doing fine, he's under observation and is in the best possible hands."

Cowell was scheduled to film America's Got Talent's first live show on Tuesday in Universal City, California; there's no word yet as to if he will be on set for the episode.  America's Got Talent airs Tuesdays (at 8 p.m. ET) on NBC.
