Are you a Segmenter or Integrator?
Working from home isn’t all PJs and non-stop snacking. It’s also draining work that’s made even harder if you’re working against yourself. For example, do you know your work-from-home personality? If you don’t, you could be heading towards burnout, and not even know it. Researchers say we can narrow down everyone to being either a “segmenter” or an “integrator.”
- Segmenters like to keep work and life separate
- Integrators don’t mind going back and forth between the two (doing a little work, running some errands, and then getting right back into work).
Now, these personality types existed before the lockdown, but the shift to working remotely has made it perfectly clear where people fall in the spectrum. If you’re having a hard time keeping your productivity up at home, it could be that you’re trying to lean a direction that isn’t really you.
If you haven’t been able to do the mix of business and pleasure well, stop fighting your segmenting ways and switch to blocking off your work time. Let your roommates know you’re off-limits for the next few hours. On the other hand, all you integrators could stand to schedule out your living time as well as your work time so you can mix the two seamlessly. Finding the sweet spot will take some trial and error but lucky for you, you’ve got nothing but time.
