With the coronavirus pandemic still going on, and frankly, not getting any better in the United States, many families are placed in an awkward position; trying to figure how, and when they feel comfortable sending their kids back to school.
Turns out, more than you might think have already decided to enroll their children in a full remote academy. Meaning those children will not be going back to in-person classes next semester.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reports that 35% of its students are enrolled for the Full Remote Academy. That's 52,552 students who decided to enroll out of the roughly 147,000 students in the district.
The other option is Plan B + Remote, which would send students back to school for two weeks, and then move to fully remote after that. Plan B includes a method of diving the students into three groups.
- Group A comes on Monday through Wednesday, three consecutive days.
- Group B comes on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday.
- Group C comes in the last three days of the second week of school which would be Wednesday through Friday.
These first two weeks are mostly an opportunity for teachers and students to meet, and then by the 3rd week, instruction for all CMS students will be fully-virtual only.
Needless to say, this will not be a typical school year at all, but I guess we could have all assumed that.
