Not to get all Morpheus-Meme on you, but what if I told you that you can work out for more than just getting ridiculously good looking? While losing weight is obviously a nice perk of exercise, there’s many more benefits that don’t get enough attention.

  • Working out can lower your stress levels. Exercise helps you on a chemical level by increasing the production of hormones that moderate your brain’s stress response. It also helps you on a mental level by taking your focus off the stress of the day and making you focus on the workout instead.
  • And it can be the antidote for anxiety. Aerobic exercise - aka any cardio that gets the blood flowing - has been shown to benefit mood disorders and improve anxiety. So yes, you can almost literally run away from your problems.
  • And it can improve self-confidence. Research has shown that working out can boost feelings of self-esteem and improve self-image. And the best part is, you don’t have to lose a single pound to feel it. Now ask yourself, what would you be able to accomplish if you were even just 10% more confident? Wouldn’t it be worth the sweat?
  • It may even enhance your sex life. Gentlemen, listen up. You’re probably already a sex god so this advice is really for “your friend” but it turns out exercise is great for a better showing in the bedroom. Research has found that men who maintain a regular exercise routine have improved erectile and sexual function. Now go tell “your friend” to start doing some push-ups ASAP.
