Late last night, Kanye West released a new song, "Donda," named after his late mother, Donda West who died in 2007 at age 58. The song starts with a recording of his mother reciting the lyrics to KRS-One's 1993 song "Sound of Da Police," saying, "Are you really for peace and equality? Or when my car is hooked up, you know you want to follow me/Your laws are minimal/'Cause you won't even think about lookin' at the real criminal/This has got to cease/'Cause we be getting hyped to the sound of da police!"
At 1:25 into the song, Kanye jumps in, addressing racism, the Devil and “fake leaders,” saying, “Mama I need you to tuck me in/ I done made some mistakes and they rubbed it in/ I know you and grandma had enough of them/ Why I gotta be so stubborn then/ I’m doin this one for y’all/ So we can end racism once and for all.”
