A view of the Loch Ness Monster, near Inverness, Scotland, April 19, 1934. The photograph, one of two pictures known as the 'surgeon's photographs,' was allegedly taken by Colonel Robert Kenneth Wilson, though it was later exposed as a hoax by one of the participants, Chris Spurling, who, on his deathbed, revealed that the pictures were staged by himself, Marmaduke and Ian Wetherell, and Wilson. References to a monster in Loch Ness date back to St. Columba's biography in 565 AD. More than 1,000 people claim to have seen 'Nessie' and the area is, consequently, a popular tourist attraction. In the summer months, nothing sounds better than the idea of living by the water. I mean, who wouldn’t like to just walk out their door and head out for a relaxing day by the water without having to deal with the headaches of traffic, parking and more.  But not all beach or lake communities are created equal, and now WalletHub has come out with their list of the Best Beach/Lake Towns to Live In.

  • The site looked at 191 cities based on 63 indicators of livability.
  • They split splitting up into two categories, towns by the ocean and towns by lakes.
  • They then looked at things like housing costs, quality of beach water, weather, number of natural disasters, attractions, safety and more.
  • So, with all that in mind, the site has named Naples, Florida the best beach town to live in by the ocean, scoring a 62.50 out of 100, topping the list for quality of life.
