Our North Carolina Gov. Cooper signs executive order extending the prohibition of evictions and shutting off utilities. As we're hearing the good news that no one can be evicted for not paying or having a late payment to landlords through June 20th is taking the relief off of residents. Residents have at least six months from June 20 to pay any rent due during the time period.

This executive order does not mean that a person's rent is waived completely, or that a tenant cannot be evicted for reasons other than the coronavirus. Utilities will not be shut off for people who cannot pay their bills because of the coronavirus, according to the executive order. Customers will be given six months from July 29 to pay their late bills.

Dates for the end of non-payment periods, as well as due dates, could be extended with additional executive orders if the governor decides to extend them. To read the full executive order, click here.
