The MRL Morning Show

Weekdays 6:00AM-9:00AM

LOS ANGELES, CA - APRIL 15: A jet comes in for landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on April 15, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. With skyrocketing fuel prices and a weak economy, US airlines are turning to mergers which could ultimately lead to higher fares through reduced flights and increased market power. US carriers emerged from a five-year slump in 2006 but with $35 billion in losses. In the latest merger move to save profits, Delta Air Lines Inc will buy Northwest Airlines Corp for more than $3 billion, creating the world's biggest airline. Recent profit challenges to the industry have lead to the shutdown of ATA, Skybus, and Aloha Airlines as well as bankruptcy for Frontier Airlines. (Photo by David McNew/Getty Images)

We entered week 9 of quarantine this week. At this point, we’re all thinking of safe things we can do to get out of the house. Well, with the news of the North Carolina parks opening back up, and with us entering Phase 1 of this ‘new normal,’ I thought going on a picnic on Take Out Tuesday at the airport overlook would be a great little date idea! I looked it up online, and couldn’t find anything about it being closed so I just figured it was fair game.

WRONG.

It’s closed. They won’t even let you turn onto Overlook street. There’s roadblock signs and also a huge sign that says no public access. Across the street, there is a big field that just looks perfect to park on…so I figured why not, let’s park here and have a picnic here instead. I kid you not, within the minute of putting the car in park and stepping out of the car 2 CLT Airport trucks pulled up saying it wasn’t allowed.

I’m unsure of if they overlook is closed due to Covid-19 or due to construction, but just know…it’s closed! I live in Plaza Midwood so it was a bit of a hike out there. We decided to park in the cell phone lot at the airport and have a picnic there instead! It definitely wasn’t the same view as the overlook but you could still get a good view of planes coming in!
