The National Weather Service is confirming a deadly tornado near Nashville.

The NWS says one tornado was on the ground in Hermitage overnight and another also in the Nashville area. The Hermitage twister was originally thought to be a long tracking storm. NWS is investigating and I wanted to share this information to let loved ones and friends know.

The Metro Nashville Police Department says at least two people have been killed in Nashville. More than 5 people are reported dead in the area. Property damage has been reported to Metro emergency’s North Nashville, Madison and Midtown precincts with 40 buildings collapsing during the twister.

Emergency shelters are now open around the metro to take in those affected. Social media users have been sharing images of damage online. Many users report the Germantown area was nearly devastated. Also in the storm’s path was Mt. Juliet and other Middle Tennessee towns. Assessing the damage won’t be easy, as more severe weather is expected today. See video of the tornado and photos of the damage below:
