NAPA VALLEY, CA - MAY 16: People taste wine at the Vianasa Winery May 16, 2005 in Napa Valley, California. Hmmm, things I miss? Wine! Being pregnant and not sleeping well I have been counting the days until I can grab a glass before bed again. Well, that is, until I saw this…

Do you reach for a glass of wine or two before bed when you have trouble falling asleep? Lots of people do because they think the alcohol will ease their anxiety and make them feel relaxed so they can wind down. But that seemingly innocent nightcap may not actually help you get the quality sleep you need.

Alcohol might make it easier to initially fall asleep, but it can have a negative impact on the overall quantity and efficiency of sleep, according to Popsugar.

The drinks may help you drift off faster, but alcohol-induced sleep isn’t as refreshing because you’re not getting the deep sleep you need. Drinking before bed can throw off the body’s natural sleep-wake cycle and mess with our rest that night and even affect sleep quality in the nights that follow, leaving you exhausted and ready to reach for another drink. And that’s a cycle we definitely don’t want to be in.

Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot 2017, California Here is a beautiful Merlot for #MerlotThursday. Deep purple in color with a purplish rim. Strong fruity nose with black plums, black currants, coffee, cedar, vanilla, leather, earth, peppercorn, pencil lead, dark coffee, dark chocolates, coke, tobacco and alcohol. Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, tobacco, chocolates, bitter herbs, light vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn. Spicy finish with medium tannins and tangy raspberries. This Napa Merlot is always enjoyable, although very young. Needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly. Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (2 hours). Tangy, spicy and tasty. Nice complexity and a great mouthfeel. A nice sipping wine. Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a beef burger and fries. A blend of 80% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Malbec. Aged for 15 months in 40% new French oak barrels. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $45. . . . . . . . . #merlot #NapaValley #Napa #justwine #lovewine #wino #wine #wines #wineporn #winetime #winephotography #winebottle #winesnob #winedown #mvp #cheers #winelover #drinkup #winestagram #vivino #sommelier #winelover #winery #vin #luxurylife #lovewhatyoudo
