A 26-year-old surfer from Manteo was bitten by a shark off the North Carolina coast on Monday, the National Park Service said in a news release.

Emergency dispatchers received a call around 2:33 p.m. of a man with injuries to his foot “possibly from a shark”. Officials are describing it a possible shark bite because the victim didn’t see what attacked him, Cape Hatteras National Seashore said on Facebook.

I never thought that sharks hang around NC beaches in the winter. I also never thought that people actually went into the water during the winter in North Carolina, but then again if you’re a surfer and it’s unseasonably warm, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity.
