Need some chocolate today

We’ve become accustomed to the creamy goodness sticking to the roof of our palate and tongues. OMG just sitting here writing about chocolate makes me want to jump up and bake some homemade chocolate chip cookies. So I know if chocolate was illegal many of us would have to retain lawyers for the court date. So why are we so addicted to chocolate? Possibly because of the sugar!

In addition to sugar and fat, chocolate contains several substances that can make it feel “addictive”. These include tryptophan, an essential amino acid that is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in regulating moods; high serotonin levels can produce feelings of elation. Chocolate is a range of food and snacks derived from cocoa, then mixed with fat and finely powdered sugar to produce this solid confectionery. You might like a bar of dark chocolate or milk chocolate fan because of what you were exposed to in life. These chocolates are classified according to the proportion of cocoa used in a particular formulation.

There are three main kinds of chocolate: Dark Chocolate: The bare essentials. Dark chocolate is simply chocolate liquor (the centers of cocoa beans ground to a liquid), extra cocoa butter, sugar, an emulsifier (often lecithin) and vanilla or other flavorings.
