If you’ve ever stayed in a relationship that was toxic because the sex was great, good news, there’s now science to prove you’re not crazy. There’s just something about make-up sex that makes it feel different than run-of-the-mill hookups and here’s why:

Anger and arousal are like the Jonas Brothers. They’re mostly the same but kind of different. This is to say many of the hormones involved with anger are also involved in sexual arousal.

Satisfyer’s Director of Education Megwyn White says we have three hormones to thank in particular. “Adrenaline, noradrenaline, and testosterone are all released when we feel a relationship is in jeopardy.” White explains. “Each of these hormones are also connected to sexual arousal, so even in relationships where sex is less present, this higher arousal trigger can activate the desire to connect partners back together again.”
