SAN FRANCISCO, CA - JULY 22: Bottles of Mountain Dew are displayed in a cooler at Marina Supermarket on July 22, 2014 in San Francisco, California. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will vote on Tuesday to place a measure on the November ballot for a 2-cents-per-ounce soda tax. If the measure passes in the November election, tax proceeds would help finance nutrition, health, disease prevention and recreation programs. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

Tomorrow (October 16) marks a big day in the soda world as Mountain Dew is officially releasing a new flavor. Maui Burst Mountain Dew is the brand’s new pineapple-flavored drink, and it will be available exclusively at Dollar General, Comicbook explains.

Some of the stores have even put the 16 oz. tropical-theme cans on the shelves early, which is making people on the Internet very excited. Twitter and Instagram are full of pictures and selfies with the new flavor.

I found it! New Dollar General exclusive flavor of Mountain Dew, Maui Burst, "Dew with a blast of pineapple flavor". This was set for release in mid October but, as usual with most releases, you can find it early with a little hunting. Pineapple might just be my favorite candy/beverage flavor so this is an extremely exciting release for me. I've been waiting patiently for a release of a pineapple flavor that actually tastes good and isn't coconut watered down (I'm pointing at you Pineapple Orange Mango Kickstart. You NASTY). ~~~ Anywaaaaaay THE REVIEW: Upon cracking open the 16oz beauty of a can (my preferred size and container) you are definitely greeted with a pleasant, but not overwhelming pineapple aroma. The taste is pretty much the same. The pineapple is obvious but shares the stage well with the signature Mtn Dew kick and the "other natural flavors". I give it a 7.5/10. I didn't like it quite as much as I thought but this is no doubt a good flavor. ~~~ Comparison (see 2nd picture): I went a little overboard and picked up some of my favorite pineapple sodas to compare. Honestly out of all 4, the Jarritos is still my favorite. It contains real cane sugar (as all Mexican soft drinks do) and that's hard to beat. But, if you think the pineapple flavor is overwhelming in a traditional pineapple soda, Maui Burst is worth a try as the flavor is reigned in a bit. I will still be buying Maui Burst over Jarritos tho for now since they are only $1 a can and the container is bigger. Oh and this was my first time trying Goya's take on the flavor. I'm not impressed. My least favorite of the 4. #review - @mountaindew Maui Burst // So first thing, this is currently hitting shelves at @dollargeneral ONLY, rn. Not sure if there's plans to see other stores, but I assume there is. Probably gas stations though. EITHER way, this is the #new Mountain Dew Maui Burst with a "splash" of Pineapple flavor. This 16 oz can has a whopping 0% juice in it, so for those looking for something healthy...keep looking. It's got a classic neon yellow look but I feel its a tiny bit cloudier. The smell and taste though are obviously different. But different from the regular. This actually reminded me of LiveWire a lot. The "natural flavors" I pick do have pineapple but I also get citrus too. Like more than I would have thought. Not that its a bad thing though. Honestly, I like this better than LiveWire. It's not 100% in-your-face sweet like LiveWire. It's a mellow pineapple/citrus flavor that still holds true to the classic Dew flavor. I could see myself crushing a couple of these if it came out back in my soda years (yea, I had soda years, don't judge me). Great Dew flavor and the pineapple/citrus complements it very well. I hope this hits other stores soon...DG isn't that close to me. Haha. Overall: 8/10 . . PS: check the #caffeine in here on the next pic. Solid buzz here. . UPDATE: this is only a DG exclusive. No other plans for release to other stores. . . #mountainDew #newDew #mtnDew #MauiDew #MauiBurst #mountainDewMauiBurst #newmountaindew #dollargeneral #exclusive #dadbod #dadbodsnacks #neon #gamerfuel #hawaii #new #limited #getsome
