The 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards happened over the weekend in Los Angeles, running without a host for the first time since 2003, and it was a star studded event. This year’s kudofest was full of historic and viral moments, including the Kardashians trying to deliver serious lines that the audience thought were hilarious. Apparently, Kim saying her family is “authentic and unscripted” was a little ironic.

Nevertheless, as exciting as award season is, I am typically there for the fashion! Last night’s red carpet had a noticeable theme to it. It was kinda like all the celebrity stylist got together and decided pink and red was going to be the trend of the night. Taraji P Henson looked great in her red and pink color block while I wasn’t in love with Zoe Kazan attempt at the style.

Other notable looks from the night included Kerry Washington in sequin pants. Kristin Cavallari looking sunny in yellow. And Emilia Clarke in a sexy plunging neckline. However, my best and worst dressed of the night stood out in other ways. Here are my hits and misses from last night’s red carpet.

Zendaya is Vera Wang. This emerald green silk stunner is definitely a winner! Zendaya complimented this gown with red hues throughout her hair, giving me all the little mermaid vibes!

BEST: Mandy Moore in Brandon Maxwell. Ladies and gentlemen, please take note of the right way to take advantage of trendy yet vintage. Mandy took the trending color blocking and put her own spin on it with an off the shoulder bell sleeve that is to die for. The high waisted skirt and slit made her legs look long and the off the shoulder top gave her a beautiful portrait frame.

BEST : Billy Porter in Micheal Kors. I love anyone who is unapologeticly themselves and Billy Porter has been on fire at every red carpet lately! I love the sequin striped two piece suit, larger than life hat and heels! Authentic is sexy in any language.

Zoe Kazan in Gucci. Now typically for me Gucci does not do any wrong, but this dress is not right. Zoe also clearly got the message for the pink and red trend but that is where this look went off the tracks. It’s too puffy and juvenile (with the bow). It looks to be a black dress that was boring so they just added colorful material to it. Not into this one.

MISSES: Rachel Brosnahan in Elie Saab. Here is another designer that typically gets it right, but this dress is just not flattering on Rachel. Liquid beading is hard to wear unless you are 6′ tall and Nicole Kidman. I think this look might work for someone taller but as far as Rachel goes, I think this was just a styling mistake.

Kendall Jenner in London designer Richard Quinn. Although I like what she was trying to do here with the contrast of tough and glam it just felt a little too futuristic for the Emmys. These two pieces of clothing separately might work but together it looks like dominatrix meets princess diaries.

Although I might not be in love with all of the looks the stars stepped out in, I do have to give credit where credit is due. It is not an easy job to step out on the red carpet for all to judge. These stars are people too and even though I might not love what there wearing I do love them and their work.
