Last night at the Emmy Awards, Bill Hader won Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series for the title role in HBO’s Barry. Backstage, he spoke to the press, and when the Saturday Night Live alumni was asked if he had any thoughts on SNL‘s recent hiring and quick firing of Shane Gillis, he declined to comment. “No, I have no thoughts on that,” he said, laughing.

But when asked about the sensitivity in comedy, he said, “Yeah, I just feel like you shouldn’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings. In comedy, you’d do stuff six or seven years ago that wouldn’t be OK [to do] now, and probably for good reason.”

“I only speak for myself, but you kind of have to grow, so I think it’s a good thing. I’m never interested in upsetting anybody.”
