AZUSA, CA - JANUARY 22: Mountain lion and great blue heron tracks cross the dry upper reaches of San Gabriel Reservoir in the Angeles National Forest on January 22, 2014 in near Azusa, California. Now in its third straight year of drought conditions, California is experiencing its driest year on record, dating back 119 years, and reservoirs throughout the state have low water levels. Unseasonable dangerous wildfire weather helped spread the nearby 1,952-acre Colby Fire which firefighters are about to contain but not before it destroyed five homes, damaged 17 others and injured six people. Gov. Jerry Brown officially declared a drought emergency on Friday to speed up assistance to local governments, streamline water transfers and potentially ease environmental protection requirements for dam releases. Such a sad situation but thankfully the boy survived this attack.Pike, the boy attacked by the lion was only playing in the backyard with his brother when the attacked occurred. The 8 year old boy went into defense mode of course and tried to fight off the 65 pound lion. He struck the lion at times before finding a stick to try to fight it off. As this was going on his brother ran into their home to tell the family what was happening.

The families home is in the mountains but apparently never seen a mountain lion before. Lots of bravery from this young boy and very happy he made it out of the lions mouth alive.
