Pot Stickers are always one of my favorite appetizers.  I never thought about making them at home.  But, it turns out it’s not that hard!  And they can even be frozen to save time so you can grab them and cook ’em up any time you’re ready.  By the way, these got a big thumbs up from my teenage son!

Here’s a quick, step-by-step, how-to video


1 pound ground chicken or pork

1 cup shredded cabbage

2 cloves garlic, grated or minced

2 green onions, chopped (some white and green parts)

1 Tablespoon soy sauce

1 Tablespoon grated fresh ginger

1 teaspoon sesame oil

2 Tablespoons vegetable or canola oil

1 package won ton wrappers

Directions for making the filling:

Combine ground chicken, cabbage, garlic, green onions, ginger, soy and sesame in a large bowl and mix thoroughly.

To assemble:

Fill a small bowl with water and set aside.  Arrange wrappers on work surface.  Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of each wrapper.  Dip finger in water and run along the edge of the wrapper then fold over and press to seal.

To cook:

Heat oil in a large non-stick pan over medium heat.  Place potstickers in the pan in a single layer and cook 2 minutes.  Flip over, add 1/4 cup water to the pan, cover and cook 4 minutes.  Serve with your favorite sauce.  We used store bought sauce for pot stickers.

Note:  These can be assembled and frozen uncooked.  Place in a single layer on parchment and freeze for one hour.  Then, place in a large Ziploc bag in the freezer until ready to cook.  Follow the same directions for cooking, adding 5 minutes of cook time.
