The only time we're given permission to show our best dressed up version is probably attending one of those non-profit galas or awards ceremonies. I consider myself the luckiest woman on the planet because I have the honor of being the mistress of ceremonies to host many black-tie events.

What's my gala closet look like?

I began my After-5 wardrobe with simple black gowns that I could dress up or dress down, then ventured into a color palette of red, cobalt blue and a multicolored African gown collection. I used to rush to find something to wear at the last minute until it nearly drove me into panic attacks, then I began dedicating 1 hour a week to exploring what to wear, either online or visiting stores, mainly consignment stores. This year for the black-tie and After-5 events plan your budget and shop months in advance to score a sale. I'll see you on the red carpet!
