Bank of America hosted a game of the International Champions Cup last weekend but had extremely low attendance numbers. Megan Rapinoe weighs in on bringing MLS to the Queen City.
There’s no denying that once it was announced that World Cup winner, Megan Rapinoe was going to be in attendance for the fan festival before the Arsenal and Fiorentina game, people were all of a sudden interested in soccer. Soccer fans were already interested, but Megan Rapinoe was that motivator for some people who didn’t want to beat the heat that day at Bank of America Stadium. She went on stage at Romare Bearden Park and even did a meet and greet with some lucky fans. After she was done with the fan festival she headed on over to “The Bank” where Christian McCaffrey met her and gave her a Panthers jersey!
“Stuff like this is incredible,” she said. “To be able to bring some of the best teams in the world here, to see the interest that we have in a city like this, that doesn’t have an MLS team.” That’s when Megan Rapinoe paused, then said, “yet,” before adding, “But I hear it’s in the works.”
If you are a sports fan then you know Panther’s owner, David Tepper, is all about bringing an MLS team to Charlotte. They are trying to win an expansion team for Charlotte and Rapinoe even weighed in on if she thinks Charlotte should get one.
“I feel like this city is quickly becoming one of the premier sports cities in our country and to be able to bring something new and exciting like the MLS to Charlotte would be pretty dope,” Rapinoe said.
You heard it here! The one and only Megan Rapinoe is on board to bring MLS to the Queen City! Maybe this means she will come more. We’d love to have her on the show! Hey, Megan…if you’re reading this…have your people call my people!
