Meyers Park, Dilworth, and most of mid-south Charlotte heard a loud boom on Wednesday around 6:50 pm and people reported it as an earthquake!

Thanks to my good buddy WCNC Meteorologist Brad Panovich we now know that the loud boom you heard wasn't an earthquake at all. Brad tells us it was most likely thunder from a storm 20 miles away near Lake Wylie. Thunder wasn't on people's mind because the sun was blasting in the sky, but Brad says you can hear thunder within 20 miles of the storm even if it's not cloudy. I guess it also could've been a sonic boom, some rock blasting, or maybe God dropped his bowling ball. But we for sure we can debunk the earthquake myth!
