We love to see celebrities use their platform to carry out good deeds!
We all remember Kim K's famous role in the release of Alice Johnson and her steady work in contributing to prison reform. What she did for Alice did not go unnoticed, and Kim has still been extremely involved in carrying out similar work with others affected by the system.
Matthew Charles was sentenced to 35 years for a nonviolent drug and weapons charge but was recently granted clemency by the President. Matthew served 20 years of his sentence and has had difficulty obtaining housing due to his criminal background. After Kim caught wind of this story, it reminded her that most of these former inmates are punished out in the real world long after they are released. She graciously contacted Matthew privately and offered to pay his rent for the next 5 years.
The greatest part of this story is that no one would have known about the major act of kindness until Matthew publicly praised Kim saying, “Kim did not do this for attention or publicity, but I had to share it, because it’s too good not to, and my heart is about to burst with happiness, that I wish you to rejoice in this news with me,” Charles said. “THANK YOU KIM KARDISHIAN-WEST and TRACY FOR THE LOVE SHOWN TO ME WHEN I WAS LOCKED UP. AND NOW THAT I’M FREE…MY HEART IS ENLARGED.”
Kim has already done so much in such a short amount of time and by the sound of it, she has no intention on slowing down on her fight for prison reform any time soon.
Good on you, Kim!

For the last year, I have immersed myself in learning about the criminal justice system. I visited prisons, met with formerly incarcerated people, and helped with cases of individual injustice - including two death penalty cases.
