CMS is taking more precautions in the new year…
Students across the Charlotte area headed back to school on Thursday (1/3) and some students were surprised by new safety measures CMS has put in place; random security checks.
The ‘wanding’ will search for guns and other paraphernalia that could put the school at risk. The searches will be random, but on a regular basis. Backpacks will also be randomly searched.
This decision comes not long after a student at Butler High School was shot and killed back in October of 2018.
CMS also plans to increase safety by adding camera monitoring, panic cards for teachers, and hiring more guidance counselors, social workers, and psychologists for schools.
