These artists definitely got the short end of the stick this year when it comes to the Grammys!
The Grammy Nominees came out on Friday (to see a full list of nominations, CLICK HERE) and there were definitely a few surprises.
The first big one; Taylor Swift.
Taylor Swift only gets one nomination
Swifts album, “Reputation” came out last November and it has kept a hold on the pop narrative almost all year but she was only nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album Category.
No rappers nominated for Best New Artist
Juice Wrld and 6ix9ine were both shut out of the Best New Artist category; a surprise considering how much Hip Hop and R&B have risen in popularity over the year.
Jay Z and Beyonce’s joint album gets shut out
Jay Z and Beyonce are usually showered with nominations as solo artists but their joint album, “Everything is Love” didn’t get nominated in any of the main categories.
Though he has had a big influence for YEARS, Kanye has never won a Grammy in one of the major categories
Ariana Grande is arguably the biggest artist of the moment but her album, “Sweetener” wasn’t nominated in any of the major categories. The album was nominated for best pop vocal album category, and “God Is A Woman” was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance but honestly, with all the success she’s had, it doesn’t seem like quite enough.
Justin released a new album, “Man of the Woods” this year, but the only nomination he received was for Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance for, “Say Something.”
Regardless of the snubs and surprises, the show must go on. The 61st annual Grammy’s will air on February 10th.
