The Monroe Expressway opens today!
The toll lanes will start near Interstate 485 in Stallings and run to Marshville, allowing drivers to skip a portion of Highway 74.
For drivers who use U.S. 74, the bypass will shave about 20 minutes off driving the full stretch, however; if you want to use the expressway, it will cost you.
The system uses electronic readers to scan drivers’ NC Quick Passes, or bills commuters through the mail.
If you have an NC Quick Pass, it will cost you $2.54 one way.
If you don't have one, you will be billed $3.92 by mail.
