A lot of people travel for the Holidays, whether you are traveling somewhere or someone is traveling to you. The TSA is suggesting that this year is going to be the busiest Thanksgiving Air Travel season on record!

Something to keep in mind this holiday season is that holiday patterns have changed recently. People are heading out a week early to see family and friends, not the day before as we have done for decades.

TSA came out with an advisory that strongly nudges us into thinking the week leading up to the holiday could be the busiest ever. Air travel alone jumped last year and is only expected to jump up more this year. They are saying you should expect long security lines and potential flight delays. The busiest travel days next week will be Tuesday & Wednesday with the Sunday after Turkey Day being a possible record breaker.

To give you an idea of just how busy air travel around Thanksgiving is.. the TSA has shared the top 10 busiest flying days ever by passengers screened:

  1. November 28, 2004, Sunday after Thanksgiving: 2,713,864
  2. November 19, 2004, Friday before Thanksgiving: 2,652,347
  3. June 30, 2017, Friday of the Fourth of July Weekend: 2,647, 852
  4. November 29, 2004, Monday after Thanksgiving: 2,642, 566
  5. November 26, 2017, Sunday after Thanksgiving: 2,609,372
