Are You A Lawnmower Parent?

Out with the old, in with the new. Helicopter parents are a thing of the past…lawnmower parents are the new thing. According to Urban Dictionary… Helicopter parent – a parent…

BERLIN, GERMANY – JULY 17: A father and daughter walk in the city center on July 17, 2012 in Berlin, Germany. The German government recently passed a new law that will guarantee every child between 1 and 3 years old a spot in a child day care center (in German: a Kita, or Kindertagesstaette) starting August 1, 2013. Critics charge the law is based on faulty numbers and that both a shortage of facilities and nursery-school teachers will make the law impossible to implement. (Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)

Out with the old, in with the new. Helicopter parents are a thing of the past...lawnmower parents are the new thing.

According to Urban Dictionary...

Helicopter parent - a parent who is overly involved in the life of their child. They tend to hover over their every movement and decision. Often times they take control and do tasks on their behalf. They also enjoy broadcasting the details and events of their child's life to anyone who will listen

That was then...this is now...

Lawnmower parent - Lawnmower parents try to pre-empt problems and 'mow them down' for their children before they occur and ensure flat surfaces are available for them to traverse.

Studies are starting to show that this type of parenting style may not be healthy for your kid's growth. There are some parents who think that it's important for your kids to go through obstacles, that way they can learn from what they're doing and not just from something someone else tells them is right or wrong.
