The Year Of Gaga: How Lady Gaga's Mind And Body Evolution Is Making Her Best Year

They say that when a woman endures many things, it changes them, and most of the time, it will make them stronger. This is very true in the world of Lady Gaga

Mother Monster is 31 today, and with that in mind, we've seen so many changes through this past year alone that show she's not only on the up and up, but she is maximizing both her star power and her power as a woman that people can look up to.

Within the past year, she split with her fiance Taylor Kinney. Despite the fact that the two remain close, (UsWeekly quotes an interview of hers), and she feels that "It's just about life changes, and we all go through different stages and we're focused on different things. To be fair, I think that Taylor's pretty f--king cool that over the years, no matter what creative transformation that I've gone through, he’s always been very supportive of that and loving. There's a lot on this record [Joanne] inspired by our relationship, and he's super supportive of me expressing myself artistically."

Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on. We're just like everybody else and we really love each other.

Having that inspiration and living through her emotions helped her make one of her best records yet, called Joanne. You can feel with that album that her soul is embroidered into it, and that the album was more for her heart than it was for pop radio. In a difference of all her other albums prior, it seemed as if she finally came into her own realism.

Her continued friendship with Tony Bennett also seems to have changed her for the better. Shortly after working with him, the days of meat dresses and egg carriages have been locked away in cold storage, and even though she can still be avant garde and exuberant with her outfits, it seems as if she realized that her talent was a lot more vital to her than to be on the fashion's oddities list.

But finally, her activism and open heart. This past year, she really opened up to the fact that she had been sexually assaulted when she was a teen, and finally came forward and told her family. The New York Daily News quotes her saying “I never told them I was a survivor. I was too ashamed." With that in mind, she performed the Oscar nominated song "Til It Happens To You" with 50 survivors for the documentary on rape on college campuses called The Hunting Ground.

Thank you for standing next to me on stage. Thank you for all the things you said, for listening to my story and sharing yours. I will never forget it. 50 survivors, so brave, relentless determination.

She also strives to continue to help out the LGBTQ community in any way she can. She even visited a LGBTQ friendly homeless shelter called the Ali Forney Center, in which she sat and spoke to many of the teens and helped work with them to discuss their lives, and brought them gifts, as well as performed and let them cry on her shoulder. She shared in the video clip that "My own trauma in my life has helped me to understand the trauma in others." She even sat down on the floor and meditated with the kids, and gave them tips to help them get through the day.

On top of all those things this past year, she rocked the Pepsi Super Bowl Half Time Show, performed at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, acted in a full season of American Horror Story (and won a Golden Globe for it), did a Carpool Karaoke segment with James Corden, performed at The GRAMMYs with rock band Metallica, and now is taking Beyonce's slot at Coachella after the announcement that Bey is having twins. Everyone wants to work with her - and even many rock bands have stepped forward after the GRAMMYs slot, saying that they'd totally perform with Gaga given the chance, creating musical equality across the board.

An open letter to Lady Gaga:

There's nothing that anyone could say that would bless you with the birthday wishes you deserve, but we want you to know how many people you inspire on a daily basis. Keep powering through and being the superstar you are. When you look back on your life, you will see a life well lived.
